    Product description

    With our ATOM remote control system, a new standard is introduced in the upper-middle-class segment. With a lot of know-how from CORE, a new development of the electronics, adapted software, a smaller Linux computer, and a restructuring of the housing production, a system could be created that is unparalleled in terms of price-performance.
    Above all, the ingeniously simple operating concept has been adopted 1: 1 from CORE, even model files can be exchanged between ATOM * and CORE.
    When it comes to redundancy, there are typically no compromises in PowerBox: the radio system and the power supply are redundant.

    Menu structure

    In the ATOM menu, as with the CORE, the pilot encounters a freely programmable system that is primarily defined by functions. Special menus for mixers such as Butterfly, Combiswitch, SnapRoll, or other fixed structures from the 90s are looked for in vain in the ATOM: A function is simply created that consists of a control and the assigned servos. Servos can be assigned to several functions. The two functions “ailerons” and “flaps” could be mentioned as an example, both of which work separately. Another function, "Butterfly", allows the servos already in use to be individually set in the third function without changing the settings of the first two functions.
    Additional menu items such as ServoCut, differentiation, or virtual switches are basically also kept universal and help the pilot to set each model according to his wishes in the shortest possible time.
    An easy-to-understand flight phase structure is a powerful tool that can be used to solve even complex tasks quickly and without having to study the instructions for a long time.


    Radio transmission
    A highly effective frequency hopping process over 66 channels in the 2.4 GHz band is used for the radio link. A range of over 9km is unique on the market and offers maximum system reserves, which are necessary for maximum security, especially under difficult conditions.
    The ATOM has a redundant design of the radio link, which is monitored by the receiver. A defect in a transmitter unit can be signaled immediately by the receiver via telemetry.
    The reliability and interference immunity of the PowerBox radio link has been proven in thousands of operating hours with the CORE!

     Signal transmission
    The ATOM can transmit 18 channels with 2048 bit resolution at a data rate of 10 ms. All channels are transmitted simultaneously in one data packet. This ensures minimal latency and precision.
    The performance of the return channel for telemetry is also unique on the market. 800 x 16-bit data packets can be transmitted per second from the model to the transmitter. Each of the 250 connectable sensors can provide 32 sensor values ​​- a huge amount of data that is recorded in the ATOM transmitter and is available for later evaluation.


    2 _BUS Telemetry
    The P²-BUS developed by PowerBox-Systems transmits servo and telemetry data on one line at the same time. This simplifies the wiring in the model with conventional servo cables and uni plugs.
    All sensors on the P²-BUS have individual addresses, which are automatically assigned by the transmitter in the event of multiple occupancies. This means that no active hubs are required to wire the sensors in the model - all sensors are connected to the receiver using a V-cable or passive P²-Dock.
    All information such as sensor names or units when the system is switched on to the transmitter is supplied by all sensors. This means that new sensors can be connected to the system at any time; an update of the transmitter is not necessary. In addition to the sensors available from PowerBox-Systems, there is a large number of sensor manufacturers that support the P²-BUS system.

    Power supply
    The power supply of the ATOM is redundant, as is typical of the PowerBox. This means that two separate Li-Ion battery units with 3400mAh / 7.2V each and the entire voltage regulation are designed twice. As before, a feature that can currently only be found in PowerBox-Systems remote controls. The battery life is at least 7-8 hours, depending on the brightness of the screen.

     

    OS ATOM built a modern high-performance Linux industrial PC. It is operated exclusively via the touchscreen. The methodology and feel are identical to those of a smartphone. In connection with an intuitive user interface, which allows all related settings to be reached quickly, programming a model is done with just a few inputs.
    The user interface was entirely programmed with the Qt toolkit. Today, this development environment is practically the standard in the embedded GUI area and is used by many well-known manufacturers.
    The display used is manufactured according to the specifications of PowerBox-Systems and is very easy to read even in full sunlight. A light tap on the surface is sufficient to operate the capacitive touchpad. The smart keys (quick selection buttons) at the bottom of the screen enable faster access to important functions such as the servo monitor and screen lock.

    The internal data communication is realized via CAN-BUS. This bus system is predestined for our application and has been used successfully in the automotive and aviation sectors for many decades. 

    Look and feel
    When you take the ATOM in your hand, you immediately feel at home: All switches are arranged as you would expect in a high-end system. The pilot is given a professional “tool” that he can use immediately. The removable handles, covered with Alcantara, not only look classy but ​​also ensure a comfortable feeling in the hands at any time of the year. In addition, the center of gravity of the transmitter is perfectly balanced.


    Highlights
    A special feature is the unique voice output. In ATOM a licensed TTS (Text to Speech) server Acapella works. The currently most sophisticated TTS system offers several different voices for each language, which can be used individually to announce telemetry values ​​or switch positions. There is no need for the time-consuming creation of audio files on the PC and subsequent laborious copying into the transmitter.

    Another unique selling point of the ATOMis the update capability of the receiver via the 2.4GHz radio interface. The pilot never again has to take a lot of effort out of an inaccessible built-in receiver in order to install a software update. Just press a button and the receiver is up to date 30 seconds later.

    Furthermore, the ATOM has an internal USB interface, which enables the optional use of a WiFi module. This means that updates from the sender or recipient can be called up online.

    Furnishing
    The two sticks, milled from the solid, have four ball bearings and scan every control input with 12-bit (4096 steps) resolution. After the digital signal processing, a full 2048 steps are available. Four further linear encoders - two on the side and two on top - are also equipped with Hall sensors and double ball bearings so that the entire ATOM works completely wear-free.
    Four easily accessible push-button switches on the left and right, next to and below the sticks represent additional sensors that can be used perfectly for wheel brakes, electric starters, or smoke pumps.

    The ATOM The transmitter is delivered fully expanded as a hand-held or desk transmitter. Of course, built-in stick switches can be ordered as an option. The good accessibility of the switches allows individual switch assignments by the customer afterward.
